She was inspired by their annual Longest Day fundraising run event, and thought it would be brilliant to bring a group of travel professionals to Air North’s base in Whitehorse for some fun tours, and to raise money for worthy charities.

2017's Longest Day fundraiser was a giant success !
NINTH ANNUAL
#LONGESTDAY FUNDRAISERJUNE 11TH, 2017 ~ 9am
It was another successful year!
With the attendance over 110 people, we raised almost $3,000 for the Saint James Music Academy. A special shout out to Tony at Article for getting his company to raise $800 themselves.
Arlene, Dee Dee & Mel were on site to talk a little bit about Saint James Music Academy. SJMA feeds, inspires and provides emotional support for children and young people in "Canada's poorest postal code." It is a great privilege to be able to support this tremendous organization.

It was blue sky with some fast moving clouds for most of the day, a breeze to keep us cool while we ran or walked out the jetty.
Marie, starting things off with a yoga stretch including a Haka (traditional war cry, dance or challenge from the Maori people of New Zealand) She never fails to come up with something fun !
Peter from Globus was the fastest runner this year with a time of 34 minutes, but Duncan & Andrew were quick on his heels. The fastest women was Emma, coming all the way from Squamish for the event. Tony, a new comer took the win for the fastest walker with a time of 48 minutes.
Last year we introduced the "Team Spirit" award. The number of entries more than double in attendance. The "Outsetters" took first place with their matching palm palm headbands, but we couldn't just have one winner. The "Wander Women" were also given a prize with their matching tiara's and playful flying along the walk.
The wildest hat is always a very hard prize to pick, each year the hats get better. Kevin took the win with his snaky hat. But the Hershey's Kiss, and the mad hatter were close seconds.
A special thanks to all the 2017 sponsors. (Listing above)
It was another year of great success, and we already planning 2018 !

With the attendance of about 65 people, everyone was very generous to our charities, helping us raise over $1400. This year we invited our charities to speak. And we were honored to have 3 come to represent.
Eva & Meghan from WISH Drop in Centre. WISH Drop-in Centre helps to improve, the healthy, safety and well being of women who are involved in the Vancouver street-based sex trade.

"Forbulous" - Forbes Travel International
"Jetsetters" - North South Travel
"Westjetters" - WestJet Airlines
"Dreamliners....Cuz we fly it" - Air Canada

Arlene & Dee Dee from Saint James Music Academy. SJMA belives in the power and the joy of music to change lives.
Keryn from the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre which provides a safe space for women and children.
Our luck will run out with the weather at some point, but this was not the year! It was a blue sky with some fast moving clouds, and a breeze to keep us all cool while we ran or walked out the jetty.

Marie, starting things off with a yoga stretch including a Haka (traditional war cry, dance or challenge from the Maori people of New Zealand) She never fails to come up with something fun !
Andrew from Forbes Travel came in first, crossing the finish line with a time of 40:40, followed by the fastest walker, his co-worker, Lisa.

We added a new prize for the fastest female runner, and Kemi from North South Travel took the winning spot with a time of 49:55.
Another new addition this year was the "Team Spirit" award. We had 5 teams enter this year, some standing out more than others.

The wildest hat is always a very hard prize to pick, each year the hats get better, but sometimes the simple ones can win too! Cindy and Michael with their simple paper hats and Regine with her gold gladiator hat took the win!

Longest Day fundraiser - 7th Annual

With no rain in sight, we did not even have to think of a "rain" plan. One day our luck will run out!

Heading into a long dry summer, we had an incredible day on June 21st, raising money for the Vancouver downtown eastside. Each year raising a little more money and getting a few more people to attend.
Thank you to Marie from Insight to Wellness for coming to give us a pre-race stretch and thank you to Starbucks for your continued support in donating coffee every year.
To the surprise of Anne-Marie she took first place for the fastest runner, with a time just over 45 minutes.

Freddie & Dave came in at tandem for the fastest walkers at 51 minutes. Dave was also a wild hat winner, with a funky chicken hat.
There were some fabulous hats, and we could not do just 1 prize. Corene was a runner up with her Mickey Mouse hat.
Enjoying the sun, food and fundraising we wrapped up our event at noon to spend the day with our Fathers on Fathers Day.

Longest Day fundraiser - 6th Annual
Thank you to everyone who attended in supporting The Travel Group and the Vancouver Downtown East Side. We raised $500 towards our charities.
Colleen started things off with a welcome and thank you to everyone whom helped her organizing the event. Thank you to Lawrence from Starbuck for the coffee and Madison Avenue Shampoo Bar for the gift prizes.
It was great to welcome back Marie from Insight to Wellness, she did a pre race stretch and then we were off.
Alisha was the first to cross the finish line, as the fast runner or the group, with a time of 38:00.
When Clarissa walked up sporting a Viking hat, it was a sure win for her, until Darren put on his Turkish hat and tied up the "wild hat" category.
There were so many sexy shorts that Tara and Karen both took a prize. Tara with colourful girly shorts with fringe. And Karen in her silver metallic shorts and an "I hate running" tee completed her outfit.
The dogs ran and played with their new squeaky toys, with snacks and great conversation to round out the day.
Thank you everyone for your efforts and coming out this year, we hope to see you next year.

Longest Day of the Year Fundraiser - 5th Annual
The sun shone on us again this year. We were blessed and know that one day we won't be so lucky with the weather.
A new exciting venue was picked, mainly because of the insane parking prices last year. We set up for our 5th Annual Longest Day Fundraiser on the lovely Iona Jetty, Richmond. We picked this location, because of the view of open ocean. Which you can see from the beach as well as the 4km Jetty. Amazing bird life all around, dogs are welcome and free parking !

Longest Day of the Year, 4th annual
With a grey, dark rainy Saturday, we
were all very concerned about the weather for Sunday. We have lucked out the
last 3 years and not had rain. And we lucked out again!
Waking up to clouds, and a dark one
over Vancouver, the grass was damp on arrival, however no rain and sunny blue
sky's as the day went on.
Thank you to everyone who

many were hot on his heels
The fastest runner this year was Alar.
A frist timer, and hopefully not his last.
Our 4 legged contestants were said to slow our walkers down with all the stopping and sniffing, but they enjoyed the walk, and some play time with their new squeeky toys.
There were limited contestants for Sexy Shorts this year.
Karen took the prize with her mint green shorts.
The day was full of laughs, food and fun.
